I'm married to the same man for almost 25 years and I'm not in any way complaining. It's my kids who complain about him. We're small town folks to the core and try as they may, they couldn't persuade my husband to go to the big city even for a visit. Every important day for my two daughters and their family, it was I who attended for the both of us.
I guess he's just overwhelmed. He always said he'd chain himself to our old oak tree before anyone could drag him out of our town. But my daughters have been really persistent and they hatched up a mighty good plan to uproot him from his comfort zone.
On their last visit, they surprised us with two tickets to Las Vegas. Their dad just groaned and walked away as I politely reminded them of our dilemma. But before my husband could leave the room, they remarked that since our silver wedding anniversary is up, the tickets were a gift.
But my husband was adamant. He simply said, "We just want it simple." But my daughters weren't going to give up so easily. They said that this anniversary is extra special so it can't just be a simple celebration. Yet my husband would not budge. He said we could also make it an extra-special celebration without having to leave the comfort of our old home.
My older daughter told him that it would be an inconvenience, most especially to me, if we had the celebration in our small town. She stressed that I am suppose to be celebrating our anniversary so I shouldn't be slaving myself in the preparation which would be the case if we held it at home.
As she was saying this, my younger daughter took out the brochure of the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas where they planned to have the celebration. My husband's expression suddenly changed. Seeing the wonderful amenities the hotel has to offer, he was all of a sudden beaming with excitement. In contrast, I became a bit concerned. How much was this going to cost my two daughters?
