If there are people who opt to stay home on a Friday the 13th for fear of some misfortune befalling them, it is a date that I and my dad look forward to because we've made it a small tradition of ours to meet up and spend the day together to catch up on each other's lives and simply to spend some special bonding father-daughter bonding moments.
A Friday the 13th is something my dad and I always look forward to. Before, it was just a coincidence that we would be setting up a meeting on the said date, but lately it has become an acknowledged mutual celebration that we never pass up. Such is my special and unfaltering relationship with my dad. Our kitchen table had a cardboard calendar and as my dad turned the page from the 12th to the 13th, he would often say, "Ah, Friday, the 13th." He told me of the folklores surrounding the date. He said that in spite of the mystery, I should not be scared or the least bit frightened when it comes around.
I really miss my dad, and I can't wait to see him again. I look forward to Father's Day, and of course the next Friday the 13th, so I can give him my gift.
