Lately, I have been feeling that there is an obvious communication gap between me and my kids. I know it is not good to let this gap widen, so I'm bent on doing something to bridge this communication gap so that we wouldn't have to face a bigger problem in the future. I know that one way for us to do this is to spend some quality time together and strengthen our bond as a family.
I also realized that it has been a long time since we last went out as a family, and so I decided to set a date a family vacation for us by next week. I know that such a vacation will do us a lot of good, and there are Travelodge coupon codes that offer some of the best deals on travel packages, so the vacation doesn't have to be too costly for us.
My two kids are already in their teens and they have started to develop different interests that are far from what I used to have at that age. I expected this to happen though I have been praying that it wouldn't because one of my greatest regrets in life was the fact that I never got along with my parents. It was because I felt that they never tried to understand what was going on in my head most especially when I was a teen. We didn't agree on everything because most of the time they wanted me to agree with them unconditionally. It tore us apart and in the end we did agree on something, and that was to let each other be.
This is exactly what I want to avoid happening between me and my kids. I want our relationship to an open one. But lately I'm staring to notice the same pattern whenever we're at the dinner table. They tend to keep to themselves and their different gadgets.
I had enough of it one evening during dinner and lashed at them to keep their gadgets away from the dinner table because they keep us from enjoying each other's company at dinnertime. But instead of doing some good, it just created more tension for us. Now, the kids rush to finish their food instead so that they can leave the table. That made me feel that I was turning into my own parents and I really didn't like it.
So now I'm really trying to remedy the damage that has been done. I want to bring back the open communication between me and my kids and possibly bridge the gap that is bringing back the sad memories of my own childhood.
I talked to my husband about it and he agreed that we indeed need to spend some quality time together and be a happy family once again. He approved my suggestion of using the Travelodge coupons in booking our vacation especially when he saw how much savings the promo deals offered. I know the kids will also like the idea of going on vacation, so it's really up to me now to book our accommodations and set the date for our much needed family bonding.
