I have a lot of new songs on my iPod now because I availed of some TimeLife coupon codes recently and got to download the latest music hits and videos.
If anything, the new music and videos only inspired me to learn to play and sing the songs on my own. That's why despite my considerably full schedule at present, I'm bent on making time to accommodate a few hours of guitar lessons and lots of guitar practice in the coming weeks.
The guitar is actually the only musical instrument I know how to play. I realized that I haven't practiced my guitar playing for a long time when I found my fingers fumbling on the fret board during a jam session with some friends last week. The chords that used to be almost second nature to me, with my fingers naturally pressing on the right strings even with my eyes closed, were surprisingly difficult to finger last that time, and I found it so frustrating.
I worked so hard on learning to play the guitar on my own. Yes, I never had any formal lessons. I remember playing the guitar for hours on end until my fingers ached and I could barely stretch them back from being arched over the guitar fret board for too long.
The finger pain and the back and neck ache were nothing compared to the sheer bliss of hearing myself play a song correctly on my guitar. It's a different kind of high to finally be able to sing along to my own guitar playing. I just beamed with that indescribable feeling of accomplishment after working so hard for so long. The sound I heard from my guitar was literally music to my ears!
And I miss that feeling. I miss playing the guitar in the dead of the night. I miss crooning to my heart's content.
