I have to laud my kids’ dentist for thinking of an effective way of getting children excited over their regular dental checkups. His strategy of rewarding his young patients with cute dental character stickers is really working because my kids are always looking forward to their next dental appointment.
In fact, my kids ask me almost every week when their next visit to the dentist will be. They show me the dental character stickers their dentist rewarded them so far (for being “good patients"), and they’re always wondering what their next sticker rewards would be.
My daughter keeps showing me her stationery gift set where she has lined up the stickers she received from her dentist. She has about seven Barbie patient stickers, four Hello Kitty patient stickers, three Disney Fairies patient stickers, one Dora dental sticker, and one Care Bears patient sticker. She’s been showing off her collection to her classmates, and she once told me that her friend asked for some of her stickers but she said she wouldn’t be giving any stickers away until she completes the set and has duplicates to spare.
My son is equally proud of his own dental sticker rewards, though he doesn’t have as many as his sister. He only has two SpongeBob dental stickers, one Kung Fu Panda patient sticker and one Finding Nemo dental sticker, but he’s also as excited as his sister to collect more. Aside from the fact that his sister started going to the dentist earlier than he did, she also gets to have more sticker rewards per visit because she deliberately hikes her charm level to full blast so that their dentist will reward her with more stickers. I myself am amused at times at how my daughter manages to charm people so easily. She’s gifted that way, I guess, and she uses this gift to charm her dentist into giving her the dental stickers she so badly wants.
I actually know how to get hold of the complete sets of dental stickers my kids’ dentist gives away. I can even buy them at a much lower price because I found some SmileMakers coupon codes that give big discounts on a wide range of sticker designs and other toys for children. I’m often tempted to buy the SmileMakers sticker sets my kids are working so hard to complete, but I always have to stop myself.
Of course, simply buying the sticker sets and giving them to my children would spoil the fun of collecting them. And I would also be spoiling their dentist’s strategy of getting them to behave on the chair and encouraging them to keep coming back for their regular checkups.
