Whoever said that cats are less trouble than dogs did not know what they were talking about. Taking a new kitten into your home is at least just as stressful as taking in a new puppy. Expensive, too! What with all the scratching toys, and pet food, and ... well, let me just say that without Pet-Supermarket coupons, I wouldn't even consider quite a few things as options.
It all started when my friend's cat had had a litter of kittens, and I volunteered to give one of them a home. When they were old enough to leave their mum, I took Callie, a tiny calico with black paws, straight home.
I soon discovered my mistake. Having never owned a cat before, I was ill-prepared for a kitten. I had neglected to purchase a litterbox or litter, assuming the kitten would know how to ask to be let out, and I hadn't bought her a water dish, thinking that all kittens ate was milk from a dish.
Frantically, I called my friend, who, after a good chuckle at my expense, told me that she'd be right over with supplies. She also told me to check out her favorite pet supply store online. Pet Supermarket was everything she said it would be, chock-full of different supplies to choose from, all for Callie's happiness.
Soon I had filled my shopping cart with a kitten collar, a name tag, a litterbox, litter, a climbing tree, several kitty toys, kitty treats, a food bowl, three bags of organic kitten food, catnip seeds, a water dish, and a kitten bed with three different cushions. It's a good thing my friend came by when she did, or I would have bought tons more stuff.
As it were, another problem had cropped up - I hadn't budgeted for this huge expense of homing a kitten, and payday was still a few days away. My friend tut-tutted at me and showed me a link to a page with a collection of Pet-Supermarket coupon codes. She told me that with as many cats as she had, she made a lot of use of all the promo codes she could find.
After that fateful day, Callie took over the task of teaching me what to buy and when. For example, when the time came to take her to the vet to have her first shots, she stoutly refused to go in a box, educating me on the need for a proper carrying crate.
She also routinely shredded her cat toys into nothing and turned her pillows into pieces of fluff scattered all about the living room floor. So back to the store I have to go to keep her happily occupied, lest she turn her attention to the couch and curtains.
Callie may be a smart little thing, and she thinks she's one huge diva, but I've got her outsmarted. Every time I need to get her supplies, I pop over to the net to get a Pet-Supermarket coupon so that I can use it to take a little off the cost of whatever she needs. That way, I can keep her in nip, and I don't go over my budget.
