I was never one to think about traveling abroad for pleasure, but when my husband started collecting travel guides using Lonely Planet Travel Guides promo codes, I was intrigued. It started innocently enough, with him leaving through the pages of the books that arrived from Lonely Planet and leaving them all over the house, always strategically placed where I'd find them as I did my chores.
I soon found that I enjoyed reading about these far-away lands, and began looking forward to the books' arrival. There was a decidedly Asian theme to them, and I was fascinated as I read about Palawan's exotic beaches, Macau's culture, and Kyoto's majestic temples.
When the books stopped coming, my husband started emailing me online coupons for luggage, hiking shoes, and jackets. I decided it was time to take the bull by the horns and decided to finally ask him if he wanted to travel. "I knew you'd see it my way," was all he'd say, a smug smile on his face. "So, where do you think we should go?"
Today, I enjoy traveling almost as much as I enjoy reading about it, and find that I can get my fix of exotic locales with a simple inexpensive purchase of travel guides using Lonely Planet Travel Guides promo codes. Though I'd only been traveling for a few years, these guides have taught me a lot. Here are a few tips I've picked up while exploring the wide world beyond our shores:
· Don't miss out on the chance to sample the local cuisine, but always ask what it is you're eating before you try anything.
· Try to find someone online that will act as a travel guide before you leave. Maybe it's just someone you had befriended online, a college roommate's cousin's friend who's living in Bangladesh and has a few hours to kill, or someone you met years ago at University and is now located in Taiwan and willing to show you around town. Having a guide who is familiar with both your own and the local culture will be extremely helpful. He or she can point out points of interest, warn you of local social faux pas, and teach you what she or he has learned about the culture.
· Know what the common voltage is in the country you're visiting, and bring a handy adaptor.
· Always keep your passport with you, and make sure to make at least two copies of all your travel documents. Keep each set in safe places separately, and when you arrive at your destination, remember to stash one copy in a safe place in your room.
· Only trade your dollars for the local money at a reliable institutions like banks or certified money traders.
