Some people say that cooking, or the ability to produce delectable dishes, is an inborn gift while some people insist that it’s a talent that can be developed. I believe it’s more of the latter. Well, that’s what I would like to believe because I plan on developing the talent to cook and be the master of the kitchen. And I don’t think it’s too late for me. With the proper determination and motivation to wow my family and friends with my savory cooking, I’m sure I’ll be able to produce any dish I can think of in no time.
This motivation to develop a talent in the kitchen was inspired by a friend of mine who also recently got serious with cooking and is now producing mouthwatering steaks and baking sumptuous cakes and pies. She invited me over for dinner the other day and I was really astounded by how her dishes look and taste like concoctions of a chief gourmet chef and not of an amateur cook who’s only been experimenting with recipes for barely a year.
What’s even more amazing is that my friend never took a single formal cooking class. All her cooking knowledge came from watching cooking shows, browsing Recipe.Com, reading countless cookbooks, and asking around. After she got married last year, she was overcome by the urge to satisfy her husband’s palate everyday, and thus she got very serious with perfecting her dishes. But before she tied the knot, she was not at all knowledgeable in the kitchen. She was always used to her mom doing all the cooking when she was younger and never found the need to cook for herself when she moved out and lived alone. But married life awakened in her the desire to be useful in the kitchen and to make her husband happier with her.
Anyway, that’s the story of how my friend discovered her passion for cooking. And I found my own passion after experiencing the lip-smacking goodness of her dishes. I was really inspired by how she managed to become such a good cook without any formal classes. I told her I wanted to try it for myself and she promised to guide me and offer useful tips and knowledge from her own trial-and-error days.
